About Time for Tea: Social for over 60’s

Supporting older people in the Bradford District at our regular social and friendly mornings.

Time for Tea is our regular free event welcoming older people at risk of social exclusion and loneliness. Running for over 10 years, these popular and fun events are designed especially for over 60’s to experience art in a friendly environment and to enjoy the company of others.

Held once a quarter, each two-hour event offers free refreshments, occasional entertainment, and a talk about our current exhibition. Young volunteers, including member of young people’s collective New Focus, help serve tea and chat to attendees.

We connect with local older people’s community groups, including the Nanj Ji group for older Asian women run by Community Works, and local Dementia support groups (all gallery staff are trained in Dementia Friendly awareness).

Participants have enjoyed entertainment from our local 8 piece womens ukulele band, 3 Chord Max, from pianist Imani Hekima, and authentic Chinese music, as well as gallery trails, bingo and our popular, fun raffle.

“Time for Tea has helped a great deal for people trying to cope with loneliness and isolation and has made their worries about being on their own disappear”, says Jean Walker MBE, from Bradford Senior Power.
