Film Screening at the National Media Museum

Dir. Bill Forsyth UK 1983, 111 mins
Burt Lancaster, Peter Riegert, Fulton Mackay, Denis Lawson, Peter Capaldi

Screening on the day of the Scottish independence referendum, Local Hero is a much-loved film full of Caledonian magic. Oil company employee Mac MacIntyre is sent by his tycoon boss to a Scottish fishing village to try to buy the entire town and drill for oil. The townspeople are captivated by the idea of the money they could make, but things don’t go exactly as planned.

Local Hero is screened in partnership with the National Media Museum and forms part of the events programme for Impressions’ exhibition Beyond the Border. Set against the backdrop of the historic referendum on Scotland’s independence, the exhibition explores the country, its people and identity.
