Feed Your Mind: Lunchtime talk

Thursday 13 September 2018, 12.30pm to 1.30pm

Inspired by our exhibition Union by Noel Bowler, guest speaker Jenny Mabbott, Head of Collections and Engagement at the People’s History Museum, Manchester, discusses the fusion of politics and visual culture in trade union banners.

Often hand painted or stitched, banners are carried by people at celebrations, protests and demonstrations. Large and colourful, their eye-catching designs convey messages of unity, justice and industry.

With over 400 trade union and political banners in their collection, the People’s History Museum holds the largest banner collection in the world. At this informal talk, Jenny Mabbott will explore the rich history and significance of trade union banners.
