Vintage Summer Fête

Saturday 14 June, 12.30pm to 4.30pm

Take a break from the modern world and delight your senses with a trip into past eras...

Impressions Gallery's Vintage Summer Fête, organised in association with Saltaire boutique The House of Rose and Brown, will be held in the Studio overlooking Centenary Square and will be the setting for an afternoon of vintage fun including:

• Vintage boutique from The House of Rose and Brown

• Old fashioned teatime treats and high tea from Interlude, Shipleys 1920’s Tea Room & Emporium

• Classic records on the wind-up gramophone

• Stalls of handmade treasures by local makers, on hand to answer your questions and give demonstrations. Featured makers include:

Sandra Inskip - A qualified and experienced tutor, who enjoys sharing her love of textiles, particularly knitting and crochet. New collections include recreating vintage fashions using a wide range of old patterns, with a contemporary twist!

Fiona Wilson - A textile artist who is mad about dollies and anything she can stitch or knit together.  Fiona's collection includes vintage fabric bags, textile jewellery, scarves and more.

Carol Ann Allan - A textile maker who loves working with vintage fabrics, buttons and beads.  She loves drinking tea and therefore making tea cosies!

Karen Palmer - Karen creates a range of pretty, handcrafted textiles with love, including peg bags and aprons and from tooth fairy cushions to laundry bags.

Emily Brownbill - Emily’s love of felt and feltmaking drives her to create unique felt corsages, rings, hair bobbles and lavender birds and a new series of remarkable felt pictures which are like ‘painting with wool’.

• Plus free set of exhibition postcards if you come dressed in your finest vintage togs!

Also taking place in the Studio: Vintage Textile Workshop
1.30pm to 3.30pm

Join textile artist Claire Wellesley-Smith and create your own corsage from a selection of period textiles and buttons, or make something new from your own vintage treasures.

Fête and workshop FREE. Drop in.

The Vintage Summer Fête is inspired by Résidence Astral by Marjolaine Ryley, currently on view at Impressions Gallery. Explore this hugely popular exhibition of photographs of her grandmother’s home, which has been ‘Pick of the Week’ in both The Independent and The Guardian.

When you’ve finished browsing the Fête, pop across to our neighbours Bradford 1 Gallery for the launch of their new exhibition My World My Things. Produced in partnership with Yorkshire Film Archive, My World My Things is an innovative exhibition of fashion chosen by young people from Bradford, purchased from Bradford shops. Accompanying films explain why they made these fashion choices. Each modern item is teamed with an outfit from our permanent collection, mirroring the social and fashion trends of our times and raising the questions of what influenced people historically to make particular fashion choices. The fashion items chosen by the young people will then become part of Bradford Museums and Galleries permanent collection.
