A new Start at Impressions Gallery

Tue, 14th Oct, 2014

With the new term, the second year of our education project Start has begun and already we’ve had a fantastic response.

In our first session the students have been given the opportunity to discuss "What is a gallery?" exploring traditional and non-traditional gallery spaces in preparation for their first visit to Impressions.

The enthusiastic students engaged in games and lively debate, widening their ideas about what a gallery can be.

Students from Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College commented:
"It was fascinating"
"I found it interesting and fun"
"Now I have more understanding of what a gallery is"

We’re looking forward to welcoming our all new Start students to David Chancellor’s exhibition Hunters during October and November.

You can view This Is Me the public artwork created by last year’s Start students, exhibited in Impressions windows overlooking Godwin Street until 31 October.

Start is a three year project funded by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts. We are working with 300 young people aged 11 to 16 in three Bradford schools; Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, Grange Technology College and Samuel Lister Academy. Students from the schools will be part of a year-long series of workshops both in their school and at Impressions Gallery. These workshops will develop their understanding of photography and how it can shape our view of the world.
