Bradford Pride of Place Project: Volunteering Opportunities

Impressions Gallery and The Caravan Gallery are looking for a small team of dedicated volunteers to support the Bradford Pride of Place Project hub, part of a major citywide photography project taking place this summer.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the smooth running of the Bradford Pride of Place Project hub at Fuse Art Space, throughout June and July 2015.

Summary of Role
You will support and facilitate events and activities at pop up locations across the city centre. Working with artists The Caravan Gallery and Impressions Gallery staff you will play a vital role in developing this innovative participatory project. You will be working face to face with the public and it will be your role to encourage visitors to take part. This role would suit someone who is interested in developing a career in arts, museums and culture and enjoys working with people.

Tasks you can expect to assist with
•    Encouraging visitors to take part in the Bradford Pride of Place Project hub activities
•    Day to day house keeping of the Bradford Pride of Place Project Hub
•    Guiding visitors to different parts of the project
•    Distributing flyers and posters around the city
•    Documenting the project
•    Assisting with the installation of the Bradford Pride of Place Project
•    Assisting with the de-installation of the Bradford Pride of Place Project
•    Assisting with events, talks and workshops, including set up and clearing of events
•    Assisting with general administration and organisation
•    Collecting contact details of contributors
•    Collecting data, questionnaires and feedback for evaluation purposes

•    Promoting the aims of The Caravan Gallery, Impressions Gallery and Fuse Art Space

Person Specification

We are looking for people who are: 

•    Able to commit to working 2 days a week for a minimum of 4 weeks
•    Friendly and confident with excellent communication skills
 across the social spectrum
•    Interested in photography, art or visual culture

•    Interested in socially engaged practice
•    Punctual and reliable
•    Over 18 years of age

We are also very interested in hearing from people who are able to commit to more than 2 days a week and can support the installation of the Bradford Pride of Place hub from 8 June to 11 June. It’s also an advantage if you are familiar with Bradford city centre and have good local knowledge.

Why volunteer?
Volunteering as part of the Bradford Pride of Place Project will give you valuable experience of working alongside artists The Caravan Gallery and staff from Impressions Gallery and Fuse Art Space. You will receive free The Caravan Gallery and Impressions Gallery merchandise and we can reimburse travel expenses up to £5.00 per day.

•    Deadline for applications: 12 noon on Thursday 14 May. 

If your application is successful you will be invited to a one-to-one discussions with Jennifer Sobol, Local Co-ordinator on Friday 22 May 2015 between 10am and 5pm

You will then be expected to attend an induction on Wednesday 3 June from 11am to 3pm
