Impressions on tour: The Prospect of Immortality at The Dick Institute

Tue, 10th May, 2016

A large selection of work from Murray Ballard's The Prospect of Immortality will be shown at The Dick Institute, KIlmarnock as part of group exhibition About Time.

Originally exhibited at Impressions Gallery in 2011, The Prospect of Immortality offers an amazing photographic insight into the practice of cryonics: the process of freezing a human body after death in the hope that scientific advances may one day bring it back to life.

About Time takes the fundamental concept of time as its starting point and brings together work from a range of photographers and time periods, each with diverse and creative responses to the theme. Ballard's work features alongside historic and contemporary photographers including Harold Edgerton and Emmet Gowin, who both made use of time lapse photography methods, as well as Turner Prize winner Martin Boyce.

This timely revisiting of Ballard's work coincides with the recent publication of The Prospect of Immortality, a 185 page clothbound, hardback book, published by GOST. Copies of this long awaited publication can be purchased via Murray Ballard's website, limited copies are also available in our bookshop.

About Time runs from 14 May to 20 August  2016 at The Dick Institute.
