Be part of something bigger: Join New Focus our young people’s collective

Are you aged 16 to 25, do you live, work or study in Bradford? Join New Focus our young people's collective.

New Focus will give you the opportunity to work with like minded people and the team at the gallery to develop creative projects that inspire other young people in Bradford. New Focus helps young people achieve their creative potential. Being part of New Focus will give you the opportunity to embark on new, creative journeys through the world of photography. You will have the chance to meet exciting and successful artists whilst gaining skills in areas such as film making, photography and blogging.

New Focus members meet once a month usually on Thursdays between 5pm and 7pm,  hours may vary depending on what projects we are working on.




What you will gain

New Focus’ aims to help young people achieve their creative potential and to gain essential skills that will be significant to you. You will have the opportunity to: 

•    Gain creative skills and have fun
•    Work as a team, make new connections and meet other like-minded individuals
•    Work directly with the public at events, gaining valuable customer service skills
•    Work with Impressions team and create professional links with photographers and other professionals across the sector
•    Develop key skills in project management, leadership and communication

We want our new members to help think of a new ambitious project that can integrate photography and media in an exciting and imaginative way for people to get involved with.


Job roles

As a New Focus member, you will have the opportunity to focus on a role that will help to develop your skills in an area of your choice. But your roles are also quite flexible in allowing you take on more than one role, allowing you to broaden your skills set. There are a multitude of roles for everyone to get involved in. Below is a list of our roles:

•    Blogger
•    Events Assistant
•    Exhibition Assistant
•    Photographer
•    Social Networker
•    Film and Media Production Team Member


Why we need you  

Being a part of New Focus means that you get to embark on new, creative journeys through the world of photography but this doesn’t mean you have to be a photography enthusiast to benefit from the real-life experience gained. New Focus provides a platform for you to get your voice heard and you will have ownership over the projects you work on whilst being assisted by Impressions team. The skills gained throughout your journey can be transferable for future employment and can help you to pave your own path in the future.

New Focus Alumni
Recent New Focus alumni have gone on to work for organisations such as the BBC, Magnum Photos and Tate Liverpool.

Once you have applied you will be invited to attend an information day at Impressions Gallery on Thursday 28 February 4pm to 6pm where there will be a short presentation from Jen the New Focus Project Manager and you will have the chance to hear more about the different job roles and speak to current New Focus members.
