Schools workshops Spring 2019

We are inviting schools to come and enjoy our next exhibition Africa State of Mind. The exhibition presents the work of a new generation of photographers from across the African continent. The exhibition features 13 artists who collectively interrogate ideas of ‘Africanness’ featuring artists working in numerous fields from fashion to film, architecture to literature.


Who Am I? Collage Workshop KS1 - KS2

This workshop focuses on the theme ‘Identity’, and gives pupils an opportunity to explore and celebrate all the different identities in the class. In the  first part of the workshop, pupils will go on a journey around the exhibition and take part in discussions that explore culture, identity, democracy, liberty and freedom.

In the second part of the workshop pupils will be given a range of images and words to help them create their ‘ Who Am I’ collage.

Pupils will:
• Learn about the artist and their art work.
• Explore issues of culture and identity.
• Use creative techniques such as collage
• Produce creative work and explore ideas.
• Learn how art can reflect and shape our history

Visual Literacy and Collage Workshop KS3 to KS5

This workshop helps students develop a critical understanding of artworks and the themes and ideas behind them. In the first part of the workshop, pupils will take part in discussions that explore culture, identity, democracy, liberty and freedom.

In the second part of the workshop, pupils will develop skills in how to read and interpret images. Students will work in groups choosing one image to explore. Using visual literacy worksheets to guide their thoughts, they will be encouraged to explore and argue alternative points of view.

In the final part of the workshop students will get hands on creating collages exploring their own identity.

Pupils will:
• Learn about the artist and their art work.
• Explore issues of culture and identity.

• Produce creative work and explore ideas.
• Learn how art can re ect and shape our history

• Workshop cost £95+VAT
• The session time is 2 hours long.
• Maximum 35 students per session.
• Where possible, please book at least two weeks in advance.
