Hate Plastic? Aged 16 to 25? Design a poster and flyer for our young people’s collective New Focus

Thu, 9th May, 2019

We have an exciting opportunity for a young designer to work directly with our young people’s collective New Focus. You will develop a poster and flyer for their event this July: Teen Tastic We Hate Plastic.

We are looking for a designer aged 16 to 25, who is passionate about the environment and reducing peoples use of plastic. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a renowned photography gallery and a group of young people to develop a poster and flyer that attracts other young people. We are looking for someone with a dynamic approach to design who is organised and enjoys working in collaboration.

Application deadline: 23 May, 2019 at 1pm
Fee: £100 inclusive of everything

Teen Tastic We Hate Plastic

The poster and flyer will advertise a special event developed by New Focus called Tastic We Hate Plastic. On 27 July, Impressions Gallery we will be taken over by teenagers. The event is inspired by our summer exhibition Our Plastic Ocean, by internationally award winning photographer Mandy Barker. The exhibition highlights the current global crisis of marine plastic pollution. More information on the exhibition here.

During the event, there will be a series of 3 minute open mic sessions, the chance to contribute to an art work, and experience VR.

Aim of the poster and flyer

The aim of the poster and flye is to promote the event to other young people in Bradford aged 13 to 19. Posters and flyers will be distributed to every secondary school in Bradford, youth and community centres, local cultural venues, cafes and other locations across the city.

We want to empower young people and to make them feel confident that this event is for them! We want the posters to be eye-catching using bright colours and bold text with a revolutionary style, but still easy to read.

The poster and flyer design should be in keeping with the ethos of the Teen Tastic We Hate Plastic event and compliment the style of Our Plastic Ocean exhibition. We are interested in designers that use humour in their work, are passionate about plastic pollution and are interested in working with a gallery.

Key things we need the poster and flyer to do:
•    Stand out and attract a younger audience
•    Be clear and easy to read
•    Compliment the style of Our Plastic Ocean exhibition
•    Look fun, exciting and accessible
•    Be inviting visually – big bold images
•    Convey the event as friendly and welcoming
•    Have a revolutionary style – but be readable
•    Be in keeping with the ethos of the event

The final outcome of the campaign will be:
•    One double sided A5 flyer with full details of the event
•    One A3 poster to catch people’s eye and promote the event
•    Digital files must be supplied as InDesign files

The branding created as part of the campaign may also be used to support social media campaigns, T-shirts designs and any other activity associated with the event.

Fee: £100 inclusive of everything
