Joy Gregory selected for Photo50 exhibition

Fri, 13th Jan, 2012

Impressions are delighted to announce that work from Joy Gregory's retrospective shown at the gallery last year has been selected for Photo50; the annual showcase of contemporary photography at London Art Fair.

This year's selection by curator Sue Steward focuses on different ways of representing an image and the broad range of processes involved in image-making. Gregory will be exhibiting work from the series Objects of Beauty, which critiques consumer products of the Western fashion industry and The Handbag Project exploring objects of luxury and their association with a particular society and moment in history.

Gregory's first major retrospective Lost Languages and other voices premiered at Impressions Gallery in 2011 and highlighted her work as one of the most significant artists to emerge from the Black British photography movement of the 1980s.

Photo50 runs at the London Art Fair from 18 to 22 January 2012, click here to read more.
