Brunch Picnic in the Park — Impressions Gallery

Bring your packed brunch and join us in City Park, Bradford to celebrate the gallery’s reopening, Carolyn Mendelsohn’s exhibition Being Inbetween and the outdoor premiere of Bradford Family Archive, our major lockdown project produced and curated by our award-winning young people’s collective New Focus.

Enjoy special Big Screen viewings of two short films Girl Power and Meet the Artist, both produced by New Focus. Girl Power shares the voices of Bradford girls who are part of the Being Inbetween series, and Meet the Artist introduces Carolyn Mendelsohn and the stories behind the project. We will also be sharing the whole Being Inbetween project, with a film featuring all 90 of the girls featured the project.

Finally, we are delighted to present the film, Bradford Family ArchiveLast May, at the height of national lockdown, New Focus put a call out online to the people of Bradford asking them to share family photographs and personal stories. More than 70 photographs were submitted, dating from the early 1900s to the present day, which were collected into a 13-minute film highlighting remarkable stories. The project brought people together through the power of photographs and stories, and is testimony to the distinctiveness and richness of the diverse communities of Bradford

After the films, take a 5 minute walk with us to the Grade II* listed former NatWest bank to view Being Inbetween  on the building’s giant windows. This  outdoor exhibition is the first of our Open Out programme, bringing photography to the streets of Bradford.

There will also be an opportunity to hear short introductions to the exhibition within the gallery itself, following social distancing and Covid safe procedures.
