Self-published Showcase: Care by Tony Mallon — Impressions Gallery

Care was devised and produced during lockdown in the UK, which began on 23 March 2020 in an unprecedented step to attempt to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The e-photobook explores what ‘care’ looks like, how do we recognise it and how do we value it. It formed part of the Heart of Glass Home Work micro commissions which engaged artists during lockdown.

It includes; selfies of healthcare professionals from around the world, archival imagery from Historic England’s collection of medical images (1938-43) and it documents the NHS health and social care workers who are believed to have died from COVID-19.

    Tony Mallon

I’m a photographic artist and educator born and based in Liverpool. My work focuses on people and place (including the spaces they occupy) and how communities define themselves. I have 20 years experience of producing socially engaged art and I have a desire to connect/ collaborate with people who are usually excluded from participating in and producing art. In November 2019 I completed a three year residency, commissioned by the Open Eye photography gallery, Liverpool. I collaborated with the Golden Year’s Group, a group of mainly female activists who are in their 70’s and 80’s.
