Suburban Archetypes focusses on 20th century church structures in Sheffield, UK.
Recent statistics show a decline in regular church service attendances, suggesting that historically dominant religious practices in the UK could be becoming less prevalent, as the nation is increasingly modernising and diversifying. Statistics also show a continued growth in population, resulting in towns and cities expanding. Boundaries between the city and its suburbs could therefore start to become increasingly blurred.
This work questions the role these structures might come to play in their communities. With populations rising and our communities expanding, these buildings could begin to appear increasingly alien in their surroundings.
