If you missed Bringing the War Home when it premiered at Impressions in 2010, here’s another chance to see the exhibition on tour at Winchester Art Gallery at Winchester School of Art from 23 October to 22 November 2013.
Featuring work by this years Deutsche Börse Photography Prize winners Broomberg and Chanarin and Prix Pictet shortlisted photographer Edmund Clark, the exhibition rejects the assumption that war photography depicts dramatic moments of combat captured by heroic male photojournalists, instead offering new approaches and techniques. These include the viewpoints of women, non-combatants, and Iraqis and Afghans; amateur and non-official imagery such as soldiers’ graffiti and personal digital photos; and work reflecting the far-reaching effects of war away from the battle zone.
The exhibition features work by Peter van Agtmael, Sama Alshaibi, Farhad Ahrarnia, Lisa Barnard, Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, Edmund Clark, Kay May, Asef Ali Mohammad and Christopher Sims.
