Pippa Oldfield will share insights into the making of her new book, Photography and War, published by Reaktion Books.
There are countless books on war photography, most of these focusing on dramatic images made by photojournalists in combat zones. Photography and War instead proposes a radically expanded notion of war photography, one that encompasses a far broader terrain of practices and viewpoints. Richly illustrated, with some photos published for the first time, this book offers an accessible and well-rounded introduction to photography’s perhaps most contested, complex and emotive subject.
“Essential reading.” — Sophie Wright, Global Cultural Director, Magnum Photos
The book is part of Exposures, a series of books designed to explore the rich history of the medium from thematic perspectives. Each title presents a striking collection of images and an engaging, accessible text that offers intriguing insights into a specific theme or subject. Reaktion is an independent publisher of innovative non-fiction since 1985.
Photography and War will be available at the special launch price of £15 (RRP £22.50).
