Join us for a day of conversation with six early-career photographers, and hear about their experience of making work for our current exhibition, Nationhood: Memory and Hope.

Designed for early career photographers to share their practice and gain feedback from like-minded peers. Six of our currently exhibiting artists will be reviewing work; Chad Alexander, Grace Springer, Haneen Hadiy, Miriam Ali, Roz Doherty and Shaun Connell. You can read more about each of them below.
On the day you will have the opportunity to meet with two reviewers*, with 20 minutes allocated for each session.
We recommend bringing along one body of work and thinking in advance about any aspects that you’d like advice on. For more information about what to expect at the event and how to prepare for your sessions, download our helpful guide below.

1.30pm to 3.30pm – Nationhood: Artists In Conversation
Gain an insight into the work and practice of six artists from across the UK’s four nations, as featured in our current exhibition Nationhood: Memory and Hope.
Chad Alexander, Grace Springer, Haneen Hadiy, Miriam Ali, Roz Doherty and Shaun Connell will share their experiences of creating work for a time-limited project, collaborating with galleries, and the challenges and opportunities of being an early career photographer. This insightful open table will be chaired by Anne McNeill, Curator and Director of Impressions Gallery. Followed by a Q&A.

4.00pm to 4.30pm – Photo Social
Round up the day with a drink and join fellow photographers to celebrate and continue the conversations. A great chance to network with like-minded others.
No booking required, drop in.

*Upon booking for our portfolio reviews you will be allocated a place including two 20-minute sessions with two different reviewers. We will send you an email within 5 working days to confirm the times of your sessions. If you have a preference to see particular reviewers, please email janehiley@impressions-gallery.com within 48 hours of your booking. Preferences will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Haneen Hadiy, Glasgow, photographs the beauty of Scottish landscapes through the lens of Islamic symbolism. "Growing up between two cultures has profoundly shaped my artistic practice, inspiring me to explore themes of identity, belonging, and the sacred."

Miriam Ali, Glasgow, spotlights grassroots activists from community organisations in Glasgow. Miriam's work focuses on themes of identity, religion and home.

Roz Doherty
Roz Doherty, Bradford, captures both the energy and uncertainty of youth in a new set of studio portraits. "Photographic portraiture was perfect for this project because it allows me to communicate something intimate about each subject."

Shaun Connell
Shaun Connell, Bradford, pays tribute to his Jamaican mother and Christian faith believers in Bradford. "As a collaborative community project, everything is produced and published with the intention of fostering understanding and connection."

Explore our exhibition
Nationhood: Memory and Hope is a new exhibition of powerful and poignant photography celebrating the diversity of the UK today. Featuring new work from acclaimed Ethiopian artist Aïda Muluneh and seven UK early career photographers. A Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture and Impressions Gallery commission, in partnership with Belfast Exposed, Ffotogallery in Cardiff, and Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow.
