Picturing Bradford
Outdoor photography exhibition celebrating Bradford district's high streets
Picturing Bradford is a new outdoor photography exhibition which celebrates what’s unique about the district’s high streets and tells stories from behind the shopfronts.
Launching as part of BD: Festival on 28 July, the exhibition features more than 60 photographs, chosen from hundreds of public submissions following an open call by Impressions Gallery.
The photographs celebrate high street heroes, bring new meaning to familiar scenes and invite people to consider the value and role of the local high street. The selected photographs were chosen by a panel of judges including: Social documentary photographer Ian Beesley; Shanaz Gulzar, Creative Director, Bradford 2025; Anne McNeill, Director, Impressions Gallery; Raquel Villar-Pérez, Curator, Impressions Gallery; Tamsin Silvey, Cultural Programme Curator, Historic England; and Phill Hargreaves, Head of Creative Programmes, Bradford Council.
You can view the large-scale images from Picturing Bradford animating windows in City Park, Darley Street, Godwin Street, and the Kirkgate Centre.
Also on view until 28 August 2023 is the national Picturing High Streets outdoor exhibition on Bank Street, and outside the Visitor Information Centre on Broadway. Currently touring towns and cities across England, this collection of photographs presents a snapshot of a year in the life of the English high street, documenting and celebrating the people, places and stories it holds.
