We are pleased to announce New Focus, our young people’s collective, has received a Creative Consultation support award from THE LEAP to run We Make Culture!
We Make Culture! is a series of creative consultation events run by New Focus to connect with communities in Bradford, and find out what culture means to them.
THE LEAP is a Creative People and Places programme of arts and cultural activities in Bradford and Keighley. Creative People and Places is all about getting more people engaged in arts and culture by having local people help shape what’s on offer. THE LEAP Creative Consultation Projects are supported through funding from Arts Council England, Bradford District Council and Bradford for Everyone. The consultation events run by New Focus will help THE LEAP build an exciting programme of activities for Bradford over the next 3 years.
New Focus will be working in some of the Bradford wards they grew up in: Manningham and City. As part of the project they will be engaging with two distinctive groups: the Over 50’s Group at Millan Centre in Manningham; and the Women’s and Girls Projectat Grange Interlink, which is a youth group based in the City ward, run by Bradford Council.
New Focus will work in collaboration with both groups to plan and run creative events. These include communal meals encouraging people to come and chat over some tasty food. Pop-up photo booths will offer groups the chance to make imaginative portraits with the objects that they use to be creative, from cameras to cooking utensils.
These events are currently on hold due to COVID-19. New Focus are working closely with THE LEAP to make sure that when these events do happen, they will be as safe and enjoyable as possible.
